FROM DISTANCE TO OPPORTUNITY:HOW A BICYCLE CHANGED A COMMUNITY

Access to education is a basic human right, yet for many children in rural Senegal, the distance to school makes it an impossible dream.
Through the collective efforts of Cyclists Without Borders and generous supporters like you, we’ve transformed the lives of over 10,000 children by providing them with a baobike—a simple, robust bicycle that turns hours of walking into minutes of riding, opening the door to a brighter future.
Turning Barriers into Pathways
Imagine walking 10 kilometers every day under the scorching sun, just to get to school. For many children, this daily journey was exhausting, unsafe, and often the reason they stopped studying. Thanks to our donors and community programs, we’ve delivered thousands of baobikes that now serve as lifelines to education.
A bicycle doesn’t just shorten the journey—it gives children time and energy to learn, play, and dream. By providing baobikes, we’ve improved school attendance by over 90%, reduced dropout rates, and given families a new sense of hope.

These bicycles have also changed the reality for girls, who are now able to attend school safely and regularly, without the risk and exhaustion of long walks.
A Ripple Effect of Change
A baobike is more than a way to get to school—it’s a catalyst for opportunity. It enables education, empowers girls, and strengthens entire communities. With every bicycle we donate, we’re not just changing one child’s life—we’re shaping the future of a whole generation.

Real Stories, Real Impact
In a small village in Senegal, 14-year-old Aissatou shares her story:
Before, I had to leave home before sunrise to walk to school, and I often missed classes when it rained. Now, with my baobike, I arrive on time every day. I want to finish school and become a nurse to help my community.
You Can Be Part of This Change
Your support makes stories like Aissatou’s possible. Whether through donations, joining our cycling community, or spreading the word, every action brings us closer to a world where no child is left behind because of distance. Together, let’s keep moving forward—one bicycle at a time.
